Moving FAQS – Getting Started

How do I get started planning my move?

Your first job is to relax. We can help you with everything you need to accomplish for your move.

What we will need from you is some information.  You can use our Contact Us form for some of the basics, or if you’d prefer, gather the info and give us a call:

  • The date of your move
  • The addresses of where you are moving from and where you will be moving to
  • The type of building (elevator, walkup) and what the building access is for service providers (service flight, ramp, multiple elevators) – if you don’t know about this stuff, we’d be happy to contact your building to ask for you
  • How much stuff you have to move
  • How many people are living or working in the space
  • How long have you been there
  • Who will be doing the packing (you or us)

Can you give me a cost estimate over the phone?

Yes, but we will need to be thorough in going through the list of what you have and what your buildings are like.

If you want us to pack for you, it will be best to schedule a visit.  Our estimator will meet you, see your building and your possessions, and then prepare and send you via email an estimate of what your costs will be.

Do you charge for an in-person estimate?

No. Although we would hope you choose us for your move, there is no obligation on your part.

Is there such a thing as too small a move?

No, but we do have a minimum charge, including our travel to and from the job.

Will you take apart my furniture if necessary (ie, bed, crib, 2 piece cabinet, wall unit…)?

Usually we can do it and anything we take apart we will put back together.  Mostly this is routine for the movers, but some things require specialists with the tools and experience to do it correctly.

Some couches, for example have parts that are easily removed so they can fit thru doorways or into elevators.  For others, it can be more complicated. We work with several experts in these specialties and would not hesitate to connect you to them if it makes sense.

When do the time charges start?

The hours range from when we leave our warehouse to when we return to our warehouse.

How far in advance must my move date be reserved?

The more lead time you have, the more likely we, and your buildings, will be available on the days you want. That said, we are happy to help you on short notice if the above is still true. The times around the ends of months tend to book quickest.

What days do you work?

We work Monday through Saturday during regular work hours – 9 am – 6 pm.  An occasional Sunday, or evening is possible, but on those occasions our rate per hour may be higher.  Remember though, that many buildings, especially residential buildings, will only allow moves on weekdays and during regular hours.

Do you accept credit cards?

Yes. We accept Visa and Mastercard.

The issue wasn’t that he had a lot of possessions to move. It was that as part of his spiritual practice, he needed to take special precautions when having his stuff moved for him. Read More…
