Our building requires a certificate of insurance – do you provide one?
Yes. We are required to carry insurance and provide proof of it if asked. If your building requires a certificate of insurance we will contact them to learn how they want their specifics inserted into the standard form.
Completed certificates are then faxed to the designated person from your building by our insurance provider. We receive a confirming copy at the same time. There is no charge to you for the certificate.
Do you also insure my possessions for damage?
Yes, but there is a cost for that determined by the value of your things, and there is a $500 deductible.
What is covered by insurance?
If we do the packing, most everything would be insurable. All empty furniture not made of composite materials is covered – as long as the movers can do what they feel is necessary to protect things so they are neither soiled nor broken.
Our moving pads are used for protection (no charge for that), but we may also need to use disposable materials, such as bubble wrap, cardboard, and various insulators and covers for which you would be charged. For example, mattresses and box springs are put in large, unused bags before being covered by our pads.
Anything packed by our movers is insurable. We will discuss all this in detail with you so that there are no surprises later.
What is not insurable?
- Furniture that you choose not to empty of its contents
- IKEA-type furniture – made of pressboard or composite wood (unless it is completely disassembled and flat like when it was purchased)
- The contents of boxes that we did not pack – since we cannot see what is in there, its condition, or if it is packed properly
- Plants
- The insides of electronics, unless there is visible external damage
- Undeclared items of high value – including jewelry, collectibles, fine art and antiques
- Pets and livestock
If I pack it myself, won’t my packed boxes be insured anyway?
Only in that the box itself must remain a rectangular solid. If the box is compromised, we will do our best to work with you to arrive at a satisfactory determination of the value of the contents. We will honor our responsibility in that case as if the contents were insurable.
What do you do about damages?
If you have insurance, for any damaged insurable item we will restore what we can, and replace what we can’t, taking into account the condition of the damaged item at the time of the move, and the deductible.
What about my dog (cat, bird, iguana..)?
What about your dog (cat, bird, iguana…)? See pets and livestock above. Don’t get us wrong – we love dogs, cats, and birds, though we’re not so experienced with iguanas.
How much will it cost?
The cost of your move will depend on a number of things. We will need to know:
- What you will be moving
- How accessible the building will be – for example, if we can move you on any day of the week or only have access during weekdays, etc.
- Who will be packing your things
